I ask the viewer to experience this Branch Installation slowly as one watches a
dance in an intimate space leading t and growing into the size of a tree...reaching
out to a new dimension. Although I have been involved with the landscape for years,
I became excited about the energy in branches when I first saw Bernini's sculpture
of Daphane fleeing from Appolo ... her fingers turning into branches as she is turning
into a tree. In making this piece I actually could feel the motion of the branches as
they move in the wind... I learned to express ideas and feelings through movement..
(rhythm and motion) while studying dance and piano. The complexity of that
combination has helped me to render excitement in my works of art.
Capturing the energy of a gesture comes from the actual making of the line.
The strokes vary according to the direction, weight and speed with which they
are executed. The entire action has a monumental effect with a different
language belonging to each piece. In this installation I used only sumo ink
on over one thousand 3" x 3" hand torn pieces of paper attached to a ten by
ten foot wall using almost two thousand pins.
